Since it’s foundation in 1991 by Peter Kroone, Companions Amsterdam became one of the foremost producers of cultural events in the Netherlands. Based on the motto Bringing Art to Entertainment and with a grand passion for music and theatre, Companions Amsterdam produced the highly successful “Opera in Ahoy” cycle for 10 years.

In addition, Companions Amsterdam developed successful productions such as the musical “Time-Affair” for Rabobank, the Philishave-Tour for Philips and the Philip Morris Arts Prize. With the “Marlboro Flashbacks” rock music tour, produced for Philip Morris, Companions Amsterdam set a new standard for ‘brand events’ in the Netherlands.

Under the brand name Companions Opera Amsterdam, the company was the first independent producer to stage grand-scale opera productions. Having started “Opera in Ahoy” in 1993, Companions created the unique concept of in-the-round opera, attracting substantial numbers of visitors new to opera, from year to year.

Since the sold out (78.000 visitors) AIDA in the Stade France Paris in 2001, Companions transcended its own boundaries. The state-of-the-art arena and stadium productions have been seen in Europe and Asia.
